Goals

I know this post is a bit late - seeing as it's already mid January (how did that happen?!).  But, I had some thinking to do.  Thinking about what I do and don't want and thinking about whether or not I want to share this stuff.  I figured sharing it would help keep me accountable, and that's really why I started this blog in the first place.  So, here goes.

Resolutions aren't my thing.  In my opinion, calling something a resolution is a recipe for disaster/failure.  So, I don't set resolutions.  But, I do think it's important to have goals.  I've been thinking about 2013, and beyond, and, I do have some goals for this year, and in the future.  Athletic and non athletic.

2013 Goals:

  • Do something once a month that scares me.  (This may have to start in February, I'm running out of time for this month.  Also, I'm open to ideas.)
  • Read at least one book a month (from the list). (I should be able to finish 1984 before the end of the month.)
  • Eat healthier. Meaning, eat more whole, real foods, less processed stuff.
  • Quit drinking soda. (I've done this before should be doable.)
  • Be responsible about taking my medication every day. (This might seem silly, but its not.  And, I'm doing great right now, but need to remind myself almost daily that I'm doing great with the help of the medication.)
  • Finish re-designing this blog.  It's been part started forever.  I just haven't had time to finish it.
  • Make up with the half marathon distance.  I've had some issues with this race distance, I need to figure it out.  Preferably before Wildflower.
  • PR a half marathon. (This is less important than the above, but it would be good, and doable, my current PR is SLOW poke action - even my sick run last night was faster than my current PR pace, so there's that)
  • PR a marathon.  (I want a 4 at the start of my marathon time.  Marine Corps Marathon.  That's all.)
  • PR Desert Tri.  (This should be easily doable as I was a completely different athlete last year at this time).
  • Finish Wildflower.  (A goal from last year that needs to be revisited and accomplished this year.)
  • Don't let Nasty Grade get the best of me.  (See above: finish Wildflower.  These are related.)
  • Finish Vineman 70.3 in less than half the time it took me to finish Vineman full.  (So, 7:52 or less.)
  • Stay involved with Girls on the Run. (Currently fundraising for them for the LA Marathon Charity Relay and I'd love to coach again this fall)
  • Spend quality time with friends.
  • Have fun.
  • LIVE.
  • Be happy.  This one is the most important.
Long term goals: (This is a small portion of a list that will grow)
  • Finish an ironman in daylight.  (This is probably pretty far off, but it will happen one day, and sunset counts as daylight.)
  • Finish a marathon in under four hours. (Also a long way off, that's okay I'm working toward it.)
  • Run an ultra marathon (50 miles or more).
  • Stay involved with Team in Training.
  • Coach adults (I think.  I loved coaching for GOTR, and I think at some point I'd like to coach adults too.)
  • Read all the books on the list.
  • Travel more.
  • Find and pursue a career that makes me happy.
  • Win the lottery.  Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?
  • Spend quality time with friends.
  • Have fun.
  • LIVE
  • Be happy.
