I'm still processing this whole crazy weekend that was Wildflower. A couple of quick things about this weekend, a more detailed post to follow soon.
First and foremost, if you didn't already know, I got a big fat DNF. (Did not finish). I missed the bike cutoff by 13 minutes. (I thought it was 11, I looked at the results and did the math for the time of day - 13 measly minutes).
I know what I did wrong on the bike and I'm going to start working on those issues right away.
I went WAY too slow on the swim. I finished in 48ish minutes. Should've been just under 40. I was not ready for the battle that happened.
I can still run hard after riding 56 miles of an insanely difficult course. (I ran 6 of the 13 miles of the run course even though I had already missed the bike cutoff.)
Triathlon still makes me cry.
I was severely dehydrated by the time I stopped. (Crying as much as I did will do that to you.)
The IronTEAM is the most incredible group of people I've ever had the privilege of knowing.
My coaches are beyond inspiring and have helped me get further than I could ever imagine I was capable.
Cheering is HARD, exhausting work, but so worth it.
Watching Macca take a beer from my teammate Jazzy, a mile from the finish and drink it was almost unbelievable and potentially the highlight of the weekend. (Although my teammates are kind of more amazing than him, seriously.)
TeamGab kept me going when things were tough out there.
Somehow I managed to eat zero s'mores over the weekend. I am NOT okay with that. Must be corrected, soon.
Lastly, RV'ing is WAY better than sleeping in a tent.
More soon, with pictures... just need to decompress for now.
Thank you all so much for your support and kind words. It has been quite a journey so far, and it isn't over yet. Less than three months to Vineman!

You did awesome despite the dnf! Sounds like an awesome weekend no matter what! I love that Macca drank a beer on the course!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great weekend! And, when he drank that beer I don't think any of us could believe it. It was awesome!
DeleteI've run the run portion of the long course several times (and have seen how tough the bike course is from my biker coming in). That course is no joke. And by no joke, I mean it's insanely difficult. So uh...totally know what you're saying.
ReplyDeleteIt is a rough course. But, I'll be back next year and I WILL conquer the whole thing. :)
DeleteThat sounds rough - are all Ironman courses ridiculously hard? I feel like a lot of them are kind of nuts. Major freaking props for completing as much as you did. Triathlons scare the crap out of me
ReplyDeleteEvery course is different. This one isn't an official ironman event, so it's just called a long course. The one that I'm doing in July is also not an official ironman event. But, I know I can do it. Everyone keeps telling me that this bike course is twice as hard as the one for the full I'm doing in July, so there's that. :) And, thank you!
Deleteare you going to post more details of the race? um you still ROCK! Dont worry about this race. eyes forward, keep marching towards the big goal. :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you! More detailed post coming later today. :) And, I'm focusing on Vineman.
